Authorities reported about at least 6 people dead, 8 hospitalized in critical condition and over 140 received injuries of different degrees. The train was travelling from Washington to New York, but crashed in Philadelphia at the night on Tuesday. One can understand the scope of the disaster, reading the words of Philadelphia’s mayor, Michael Nutter, who described the accident as the ‘complete disasterous mess’.

I’ve never seen nothing like this in my whole lifetime

– said Nutter

The reason for the derail hasn’t been found yet, and the investigators are still working on the accident. As it has been stated earlier, almost 250 people were on board the train. 140 of them as well as 5 crew members received injuries and were hospitalized in the nearest hospitals. Unfortunately rescuers didn’t manage to save 5 people as they were buried alive under the train parts and 9 people were taken to hospital in the critical condition but one of them died in a couple of hours.

The power of the impact was so big that train cars, made of steel, were easily bent like matches

The accident took place at 9:30 p.m. on the Wheatsheaf lane in Philadelphia. Local authorities say that the possible reason for the derailment was the overturning of 6 of the train’s cars which lead to the crash of the whole train.
