The Kilauea Volcano

The Kilauea Volcano

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is aware of new activity of the volcano on the Hawaiian Big Island due to the dangerously high level of the lava lake on its top.

According to the report made by the local Observatory, the level of magma in the volcano has been increasing during the last month, and it potentially causes the danger of eruption in the nearest hours or days. The lava lake in the crater reached its historic maximum in April, but recently decreased a bit.

The situation is becoming more complicated because of the number of earthquakes, registered by researches, that took place on the Big Island recently. In general, hundreds of small shakes were recorded, and approximately 25 shakes per hour took place in the area, near to Kilauea. Experts state that the magma storage system has a very high pressure inside and is unstable, thus creating favorable conditions for the eruption.

Although observers are waiting for eruption, which can happen at any moment, there is no reason to panic, because the volcano is located far from major cities.
