A 65-year-old Hawaii woman was killed by a shark on the coast of Maui Wednesday morning. The government made an effort to close off beaches in that area and prohibited to take part in surfing and other popular activity there for a while.

The woman body was found floating with her face down in the water approximately at 9 a.m. near the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve that situated on the southwest coast of the island. It was stated that the injuries that caused death was made by a shark.

The authorities said that she was the citizen of Kihei and lived just about 12 miles from where her body had been found. Also it became known that at the time when the accident happened the woman had been snorkeling with two friends before they separated and left her alone.

Hawaii government has closed all the beaches including the ocean from the reserve to Makena State Park to the north with a surf sport called “The Dumps” up till at least Friday afternoon. Besides, it was stated that during the current year only two cases of shark attacks appeared and neither of them was fatal.

Since 1995 till this Wednesday only three fatal accidents with sharks were confirmed in Hawaii waters, although all of them came about on the coast of Maui.

Unknown species of a shark caused the death of a fisherman Patrick Brinley near the coast of Makena on December 2013. Earlier the same year the German tourist Jana Lutteropp died after a shark bit off her arm while she was snorkeling in Makena. Also in 2004 a surfer died because of shark attack off the Maui coast.
