It became a tradition to come to the capital of France and ‘lock your feelings’ for years on to the Pont des Arts and then to throw the key into the Seine that flows beneath.

However the ‘weight of people’s love’ became too heavy for the bridge since it collapsed last year because of that. So all locks will be removed from Monday for a citizens’ save, according to the local officials.

Around a million padlocks, which weight is approximately 45 tonnes, will be cut off. The same will be done with the locks from The Pont de l’Archeveche situated near the Notre Dame cathedral.

This summer transparent panels are to be put on the side of the Pont des Arts, but firstly metal grates, which dates to 1804, are to be replaced by paintings.

Bruno Julliard, Paris’ deputy mayor, stated that a lot of new ways to express people’s love would be created because despite all those lock’s removals Paris should remain the capital of love and romance.

Last year there a campaign was launched by the city which encouraged people to take selfies instead of attaching locks, though it failed to become successful.
