Every year approximately seven million visitors go up the tower, which reopened on Friday afternoon.

Pickpocketing gangs grow numerously every day and attack tourists with bigger frequency, so the staff demanded some official guaranties from management to stop that outrageous situation. Denis Vavassori, the staff’s union representative, said that so long as the staff had walked out, the police forces could be asked for a permanent presence there.

One of the staff workers stated that there usually are gangs of four to five people but there were occasions when a gang of 30 people surrounded the tower, even causing fights among themselves. Another protester added that he was threatened to have serious problems in case his further interfering to thieves ‘work’.

Nearly 26, 000 police and municipal officers would be deployed into Paris throughout the summer to protect innocent visitors and ordinary citizens from pickpocketing threats, according to the daily Liberation newspaper.
