The ship with more than 400 people on board has sunk this morning at half past nine in Jianli part of the Yangtze. Officials reported that the ship, named Dongfangzhixing, that means Eastern Star, had 458 people aboard. 406 were Chinese passengers, 5 employees of the travel agency and 47 were the crew of the ship.

The rescue team managed to get out three people once they arrived at the place of the catastrophe, captivated in the ship and continued their search for others despite the severe weather conditions. Heavy rain and strong wind are standing on rescuers’ way, but so far they managed to save 15 more people from the wrecked ship.

Authorities also reported about bodies of three dead people at the distance of nearly 30 miles from the ship. They also added that it indicates on the big speed of the water flow.

12 more people managed to swim to the shore by their own. Officials also reported that they didn’t receive the SOS signal from the ship and one of the survivors said that the four-level ship began capsizing when the heavy rain crashed into the ship and began steeping the inner space of the ship.

The ship was on the course from Nanjing to Chongqing when the catastrophe took place.
