Famous British sculptor Anish Kapoor defends the artwork which actually looks like huge metal vagina.
This piece of art in the French palace of Versailles has been usually described as ‘gross’ and ‘dirty’. However, Mr Kapoor, who actually had recently called it ‘the vagina of the queen coming into power’, has changed his mind. He stated that such a work could be differently interpreted.
A lot of local residents, authorities and tourists are shocked by the kind of sculpture which has been placed near the Versailles palace, where in the 18th Century lived Marie Antoinette, the queen of France.
Versailles’ mayor even tweeted that it was a mistake of the award-winning artist to place such a thing there.
The majority of tourists confused that the huge vagina was near one of the most important architectural buildings and one of most famous places in Paris as well as in France – the Versailles palace.
When you think you’re coming to Versailles you’d expect like classic French, maybe a big statue of some Roman god but this just seems dirty, gross
– said American tourist Megan about the sculpture.
Talking about Mr Kapoor, he said that he misquoted in his last interview and also added that the artwork could be multiply interpreted.
Inevitably, one comes across the body, our bodies and a certain level of sexuality. But it is certainly not the only thing it is about.
– stated Kapoor, who appeared to be a former Turner Prize winner. Besides, his works has been travelling around the whole world and shown to different nations.
The Orbital Tower placed at the heart of the Olympic Park in London is his the best known work.
