Tweets become lengthier! Twitter extends limit of characters for direct messages

In order to keep up with such private messaging apps as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, Twitter changed the limit of characters for direct messages between its users. The limit is increased from 140 to 10 000 characters.

In order to keep up with such private messaging apps as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, Twitter changed the limit of characters for direct messages between its users. The limit is increased from 140 to 10 000 characters.

However, the these changes in messaging aren’t related to public tweets. The length of public tweets still remain restricted the 140.

By introducing such innovation Twitter hopes to move further into the private messaging and take on the likes of Facebook Messenger and WhatsUp, which have never had any length restrictions.

Twitter has had those limitation till the current time because in the early days of that app, people used to write private massages which were actually very short. So the average amount of characters had been chosen and the limit was implemented.

Besides, Twitter developers also narrated before the official roll-out to users, which is planned to take place in July, that it will be possible to send messages everyone. In past as well as now users are able to send messages only to their followers or people, whom they have been following.

Twitter searches new ways of encouraging people to use the service regularly as well as struggles the number of users and profits at the same time.
