The new social media startup, called Hyper, was created specially to protect users from online attacks of so-called online trolls, people that use social media to insult other people or hurt their feelings. Hyper automatically creates a digital audience around the points if interest of the user and therefore protects the user from online attacks.
Upon uploading the photo, users can specify the photo genre by using hashtags like #family or #vacation and vote on similar photos.
Users are able to choose the communities they are surrounded with
– said Dan Frieber, one of Hyper’s creators.
Frieber also said that improper content can’t be successful on Hyper because it will get downvoted very soon.
Over the last years, online insulting became a big problem. Due to the latest research, nearly 25% of questioned school students were abused when using digital communication technologies including social media and text messaging.
Another pleasant feature that Hyper offers is the ‘anonymous posting’ that allows users that don’t want their acquaintances or relatives to see the posted photos. For example this option is useful for the members of the LGBT community or to the people with mental illnesses.
The application is free of charge on iTunes and users have posted more than 60,000 photos during the beta-testing period and set more than 1,000,000 votes on the pictures.
