The tracking device itself looks like an ordinary credit card that you can attach to the object you are most likely to lose or the thing that you want to know location of. For example, you can attach the device to your keyring or to you luggage when travelling. The tracking method that iTrack uses isn’t brand new as the GSM-tracking method was known earlier, but iTrack developed it to the state when it can be easily used by everybody.
Recently there have been a lot of tracking devices on the market, but most of them use Bluetooth to get the coordinates of the desired object, and the biggest disadvantage of this technology is the 100 ft distance limit. another devices use GPS tracking, that require special GPS receiver and is drains the battery of the device very fast.
iTrack differs from the other devices by the very way of tracking. It uses only the nearby GSM cell stations to triangulate the location of the device and it also uses these stations to report the location back to the owner. The device comes with the SIM-card, built-in battery that can last for around 3 years or 1,500 connections. iTrack can be found everywhere, where one can receive a GSM signal and a free mobile application to manage the device. An iTrack user has an option to set the frequency of connections, live tracking and recording the track or even setting an alarm if the iTrack device comes out of the defined perimeter. The last option is very useful for cyclists, bikers and car-owners as they allow to keep an eye on their property.
But this technology also has it’s disadvantages. One of the main problem in cellular tracking is the tracking accuracy. 100 ft distance may be enough to get the location of your car, but it is definitely not enough to find your purse or a tablet. The way out of this tech-trap is to combine cellular tracking with another tracking methods like Bluetooth or GPS. Another thing that worries the users is the safety of the data that is being transmitted during positioning process, though developers assured that all the transmitted data is safely secured.
The price for the novelty starts with $49 for pre-order of one device and $370 for 10 items. The devices are expected to be delivered in the mid-summer.
