Facebook is getting on a new level! Despite the fact that Facebook already collects information from users’ photos in order to suggest tags for the new images, uploaded by their friends, they are going to work on a completely new technology.
The Facebook’s team of developers is working on a new project, which has the aim to make it possible to recognize a person’s face even if it is unclear.
This new technology includes not only facial recognition but the whole body as well, looking at around 100 different parts of human body.
If the idea is successfully developed, then the new algorithm will be able to recognize the same person in different poses and even in different photos.
However, it is obvious that this technology won’t be implemented on Facebook in the nearest future. But the method has been already tested on more than 37,000 photos, which were taken from Flickr Commons by the research team.
Earlier this month their findings were presented at the Computer Vision Foundation conference, where it was confirmed that the accuracy of the algorithm was 83% with 581 different people.
Facebook had some problems with the use of facial recognition technology in the past. Besides, because of worries over privacy and use of facial recognition, Facebook’s photo-sharing app Moments was made unavailable in Europe just last week.
