The new function is available in the Facebook application, Messenger since Monday in 18 countries, including U.S. Android and iOS users can start the conversation by clicking on the video camera icon in the top right corner of the messaging window. This function is also available in the newly created desktop version of Messenger. But video conversations are available only between mobile-mobile or PC-PC pairs of devices. Mobile-PC or PC-Mobile video calls will be available later.

By adding this major service, Facebook leveled up to such market giants as Google (Hangouts) or Microsoft (Skype) which had their own video-calling applications before. This innovation is also a part of Facebook market-strategy that includes enlarging Messenger application to all-embracing intercourse portal. And the company has done a huge amount of work toward it’s goal. For example, voice calls through the Messenger already are at the 10% position of all global calls.

Facebook also announced the new feature that will allow users to send payments through the application or take track after their e-commerce purchases.

Messenger was released last year, and the application quickly became very popular and is used by 600 million people worldwide, that is nearly 40% of all Facebook users.
