The famous space agency joined its efforts with the National Security Administration to work out with a plan to stop the giant asteroid that is a potential threat to Earth.

The announcement, made last week came before the first Asteroid Day that is scheduled on the 30th of June. This day scientists will try to attract public and government attention to the asteroid problem as there is a risk of being hit by different-sized space objects.

The mentioned date wasn’t chosen by chance, it is the day when an asteroid hit Earth in Siberia and literally wiped out almost 800 square miles of land. Another incident with the meteorite in Chelyabinsk that took place in 2013 also indicates on possible potentially harmful rocks in space.

But the problem of blasting the asteroid isn’t as simple as it may seem on the first look. And scientists came up with a plan that includes using the ship with two rockets on board. The first rocket will make a hole in the giant rock and the other nuke will finally destroy it to small pieces that will incinerate in the upper layers of the Earth’s atmosphere.
