For approving transaction users will need only to hold their phone up as though they are going to take selfie.

The firm security expert claimed that the future is in selfies so the new generation obviously will be fond of that new app.

However, some additional security should be added to facial recognition. Because as it is known, Google tried such technology of facial recognition on Android phones and they faced up with a large number of problems. For example, people realized, they simply can use photo of some person, which was taken previously, to outwit the system.

Mastercard’s app has smarter technology, it asks users to blink so to make sure they are human beings. However, even that system could be easily spoofed.

People took photographs and animated them, drawing eyelids on. There have been advances in biometrics since then, but they’re not quite there yet

– claimed Ken Munro, security researcher at Pen Test Partners.

He also added:

Ideally I’d like to see facial recognition used in conjunction with a Pin. Both systems have flaws, but work brilliantly when you combine them

Facial recognition is an alternative to a system of SecureCode that asks online shoppers to input password for completing their purchases.

According to the company, that new facial recognition technology was used approximately in three billion transactions during the past year. The testing of Mastercard’s system currently involves 500 people in the US.
