Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy on Friday was not left without attention. A huge swastika symbol was left on a football pitch, used for Croatia’s national team.

The game took place at the Polijud Stadium in Split. The match was held behind closed doors due to the punishment Croatia has already received before. But those who were present at the match and millions of viewers around the world could clearly see the Nazi symbol on the pitch.

The staff of the stadium tried to remove the Hitler’s symbol during the halftime but their efforts were not successful.

The results of the game are 1-1. Now Croatia is on top of Group H but there is a possibility that it would face sanctions by UEFA.

On Saturday, a representative of home federation Tomislav Pacak apologized about the incident on official website.

He wrote:

We apologize to all viewers, our guests from Italy and the players from both teams, for the Nazi symbol on the Poljud Stadium grass. We have immediately notified UEFA of the incident

He also admitted that the symbol was an act of vandalism. He promised to find the person responsible for it as it was a shame for whole country. According to Pacak someone has used some chemical liquid to make the symbol visible during the qualifier.

Earlier, when Croatia had a game with Norway its fans were really racist and violent so UEFA had to punish them. Thus, the match with Italy was played on empty stadium. Now UEFA is to give its oficial reaction to the recent incident.
