Tim Nicot is the second Belgian footballer who died in his twenties in last two weeks. He was only 23 years old when he collapsed on the football pitch. Tim was taking part in the game for club Wilrijk Beerschot in a tournament at Hemiksem on Saturday.

Last month Gregory Mertens, 24, passed away in hospital. He was a Lokeren defender and collapsed during the reserve game.

Medics of Antwerp University Hospital had to put Nicot into an induced coma. On Monday, his club announced the death of famous footballer.

Representatives of the club wrote on Twitter:

KFCO Wilrijk Beerschot is in mourning. Tim Nicot has just died. We wish family and friends strength

A statement on the official club website said that he was too young to die as he was only 23.

KFCO Wilrijk Beerschot tries to put up with the big loss. Tim Nicot’s condition was described as critical. His family and friends, as well as Tim himself, were fighting hard to win this battle between life and death.

The statement on website thanked Nicot for everything he had done for his club. He wore a T-shirt with number 14 on his back and was described as a tireless man.

All the supporters have been invited to Olympic Stadium in order to show their respect and love for Tim. A book of compassion was also opened there. A lot of friends of Tim and other football clubs showed their respect on Twitter.

Het Laatste Nieuws, a Belgian newspaper, putted a quotation of Tim’s father. He said:

Yesterday afternoon, I felt that Tim was losing the fight. His body could not take it any more.

I cannot comprehend it yet. Twenty-three years old

At the moment of the death, Tim’s family was near him. After the tragedy, all athletes are to have their hearts examined by cardiologists.

The Gazet Van Antwerpen newspaper reported a doctor Pedro Brugada’s quotation:

We must check our cars each year, but not our bodies. That is absurd
