The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend is going to be held in Charlotte, as the city won the right to do that.

The official announcement will be made on Tuesday by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan during the news conference. The bid to host the event was made by Charlotte representatives and the Hornets organization in summer 2014.

As Time Warner Cable Arena was greatly renovated and improved, Silver had no doubts that Charlotte deserved to be awarded with an All-Star Weekend. In December, during his visit to Charlotte he said:

Personally I’m very excited about coming back here. I don’t think there’s any question it’s going to happen. Just a matter of what year

Charlotte’s government agreed to pay $27.5 million to improve the arena. Actually, that was a key for a bid as NBA saw all the efforts.

The 2016 All-Star Game will take place in Toronto. And the 2017 All-Star Weekend will be held in mid-February, but there is no fixed date yet.

Apart from All-Star Game, All-Star Weekend also includes different competitions, like a slam-dunk contest and a 3-point shooting contest. In addition to this, it includes a game between select first- and second-year NBA pros and a Development League All-Star Game. After the game, a fan festival will be held, most likely in Charlotte Convention Center.

The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend will be visited by Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors guard and the most valuable player.
