It was officially announced by the US Treasury Department that a woman will be featured on new $10 note! However, the ‘face-of-winner’ hasn’t been chosen yet.

The 100th anniversary of the US Constitution’s 19th amendment, which will be held in 2020, was decided as the event, when the new note will debut. It will be the 100th anniversary of giving woman the right to vote.

The public will be involved in choosing the female champion to appear on new $10 note. The decision is to be made till the end of this year.

The current leader, who was chosen by US residents, is Harriet Tubman, who beat other finalists, including Eleanor Roosevelt, the former first lady, as well as Rosa Parks and Wilma Mankiller, the civil rights activist and the leader of the Cherokee nation respectively.

Harriet Tubman is famous for conducting the Underground Railroad, which helped the huge number of slaves in the 1850s to escape to freedom.

We have only made changes to the faces on our currency a few times since bills were first put into circulation, and I’m proud that the new 10 will be the first bill in more than a century to feature the portrait of a woman.

The woman, who will be selected by the Treasury Department, will replace Alexander Hamilton.

He was the first  US Treasury secretary as well as the key figure in the American Revolution. He started appearing on the $10 note in 1929. Besides, Hamilton along with Ben Franklin appeared to be the only two featured on US notes without being US Presidents.
