A resident of the US state of California was killed during a failed test of bulletproof vest.

According to KXTV, 19-year-old Miguel Henry Martinez was shot by his friend Elijah Ray Lambert. The incident took place in the park Bannister in Sacramento County. The County Sheriff’s Department said that 21-year-old Lambert, who was arrested on Saturday, May 23, was accused of involuntary manslaughter.

Brother of Martinez, Tom Cline, explained that friends offered Martinez to put a bulletproof vest on, assuring that he won’t feel hurt after being shot.

Miguel was fooling around with his buddies. They were in possession of a gun and a bullet proof vest

– said Cline.

But the bullet hit the top of the jacket, and Martinez couldn’t breathe.

Cline believes that his brother could have been saved, if his friends called an ambulance in time. But in that situation, one girl ran for help and two guys were busy trying to carry Miguel up the bike path. When patrol deputies arrived there, it was too late.

Police Sergeant, Lisa Bowman, told The Los Angeles Times, that initially buddies of Martinez reported robbery resulting in the death of Martinez, but later they admitted that it was an accident.

It is not specified what punishment Lambert can face and currently he’s in the county jail without bail.
