US teachers in Washington state are planning a one-day strike.

The largest union of state teachers announced their plans to go on a one-day strike to claim higher salaries, better working conditions and reduced sizes of school classes.

Rich Wood, the spokesman of Washington Education Association informed that nearly 3,000 teachers in 9 school districts are going to take part in the strike. Nearly 5,000 members of the Seattle part of the union are voting this week on making their own strike the next month.

Teachers are dissatisfied with low wages and they aren’t happy about the promise to raise salaries by 3 percent in the next two years whereas their healthcare fund wasn’t increased in the last five years. Also, teachers are dissatisfied with the plans of the government to increase the size of the school classes in grades from four to twelve.

In order to try and satisfy the demands of the state Supreme Court, lawmakers in Olympia are trying to set the education budget on the level of 1.3 – 1.4 billion. But teachers say that these money aren’t enough to fund schools till 2019. The protestants are also very unsatisfied with the bill that has been passed by the state Senate that is offering to use the state test marks in teacher’s evaluation.
