David Sweat is still on the run, while the second escapee and killer Richard Matt was shot dead by the police on Friday.

The two sentenced killers escaped from the most-secured NY prison on June 6. Since then all NY police forces have been looking for them. However, on June 26, one of them had been killed by police.

On Friday morning there were complains from the local residents  about a shooting near a camping trailer. Immediately after the police were informed, customs and border patrol agents rushed to the scene on a helicopter.

According to the New York State Police Supt. Joseph D’Amico, Matt was encountered in the woodland nearby. After police forces challenged the escapee he opened fire, so the agents were forced to react quickly and shoot the killer.

He was shot dead by border patrol at that time. We recovered a 20-gauge shotgun from Matt’s body at the location.

– reported D’Amico during a news conference on Friday.

Talking about the second escapee, Richard Sweat, he hasn’t been spotted nowhere nearby. The NY Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that there were no reasons and evidence as well to believe that Sweat was with Matt.

According to the police reports, earlier on Friday the two men were spotted heading to the Canada border but police found no evidence to confirm that information. They were reportedly armed. After Matt was shot dead, all available police forces were turned to the Sweat’s searches. However, there was no signs that he was nearby.

D’Amico stated that the RCMP and Sûreté du Québec have been involved in the Sweat’s searches on the territory of Canada.

The public were asked to be on alert and call 911 if there is any possibility that they saw Sweat.
