The Ex-Royal Marine Stephen Gough, known as the naked rambler, became the first person who appeared naked in court via video link from prison.

The man was convicted for the breach of an anti-social behavior order. He faced those charges due to a decision to appear naked in public because it was counted by officials as breaking the law.

Stephen Gough has spent more than 8 years in jail due to his life believes. He lost his appeal against a conviction for breaking an Asbo and appeared via video from Winchester prison, where he has been serving almost 3-year sentence. He faced charges for being naked in public.

Mattew Scott, his counsel, was fighting for the Gough’s right to appear naked at the original trial, although that appeal was refused by Lady Justice Rafferty.

However, the 56-year-old Gough became a creator of history of appearing in his natural state.

In October 2014 Winchester Crown Court’s jury found Mr Gough guilty of breaking the anti-social behavior order and got up to 30 months of imprisonment. Even despite being formerly sentenced for the same reasons, Mr Gough refused to put on clothes. However, the judge forbade him to appear at court naked, so the whole incident ended up with a trial on Mr Gough, where he was actually absent.

The argue continued and Mr Scott demanded from the judge the possibility of Gough’s being present only nude.

All that arguing and court processes end up with Gough’s appearing in front of jury ‘in his natural human state’, but all his ‘goods’ below the belt were invisible as it was hidden under the table, where he was sitting. Besides, he hadn’t been actually present in the court room because he was facing the justice via video link, staying at the prison.

In 2003 he completed a nude trek from Land’s End to John O’Groats and as a consequence was called ‘the naked rambler’.

He has been repeatedly facing numerous convictions and prison spells which is in total about 8 years.
