The aim of the holiday is to express “Thank You!” to our mothers for raising us up and for giving us the best qualities that we have now. People celebrate this holiday in different ways: some are simply sending a greeting card and in cases if they are physically unable to do that, they try and greet their mothers using online video services. Others can welcome their mothers by presenting them with some sweets or by a bouquet of flowers. Others can even present their beloved ones a trip to some popular beauty salons. One of the most popular ways to greet one’s mother still remains the breakfast-into-bed present.
The roots of this holiday are believed to reach back to 1872, when Julia Howe called for women to join her in the fight for disarmament and pacifism among women. She asked for “Mothers Day of Peace” to be celebrated on the 2’d of June. But it wasn’t the usual “Mother’s Day” as we know it now, it was the attempt of uniting women against war.
There were several endeavors to renew Mother’s Day in 1880’s and in 1890’s but none of these attempts became popular on the country-level. The holiday as we know it now was created in 1908 by Anna Jarvis from West Virginia. Anna wanted to make her mom’s dream of making a holiday for all mothers, come true. She succeeded and now every mother in the world has her own holiday, and more: many companies are trying to make this day even prettier by offering different offers on the occasion of such a bright holiday though this is not a federal holiday and all the businesses are working as usual.
