An unnamed woman after detaining by the Atlanta police opened fire on them while sitting in the back of their car. The cops returned fire and fatally wounded her on Tuesday.

Major Darin Schierbaum stated that police was investigating a call about stolen car in the afternoon that day and accidentally saw a missing vehicle in the parking place. Two officers arrested her and took to the patrol car. Then he added that unexpectedly she fired at the officers at least two times and they naturally returned the fire, seriously wounding her, what caused her death later in a hospital. Witnesses confirmed that the people had heard three shots and rushed to cross the street, but when another three shots were heard everybody started running back.

It is unclear how the woman was able to use a gun as she had been handcuffed, what later was confirmed by eyewitnesses. But the police has been still investigating that fact because they doubt whether it was possible to open fire in that situation while being handcuffed.

The police officers weren’t injured during the incident, but the woman, whose identity hasn’t been released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and soon died from wounds.

While the investigation continues, both officers, who appeared to be African American as was the woman, are on administrative leave. Police are currently looking for surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
