A 51-year-old Joyce Mitchell appeared in court. She was accused of providing Richard Matt and David Sweat with contraband.

The two escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, by using some tools to drill their cell walls and tubes. Police are searching for the murderers really intensively.

Joyce Mitchell has been kept in jail for weekend. On Monday she has to appear in court once again. If she is found guilty, she will spend at least 8 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, the woman gave the escapees hacksaw blades and drill bits. But the authorities think that she didn’t provide them with more powerful instruments.

Mitchell was also intending to be the driver for them but she changed her mind at the last minute. The investigators are also trying to get to know if she had some inappropriate connection with one of the murderer.

Mitchell’s family thinks that she was not capable of such deed.

48-year-old Matt and 34-year-old Sweat drilled a hole in their cell wall and crawled through an underground pipe. They emerged from a manhole, which was located 40ft from the prison.
