Homecoming prom queen died in flood on her way home

The car of Alyssa Ramirez, a homecoming queen who was also a cheerleader, a tennis and volleyball player as well, was swept off the road by the floodwaters on her way home after the Saturday night prom.

The newly elected queen drown in her car after the school prom in Devine, Texas.

The car of Alyssa Ramirez, a homecoming queen who was also a cheerleader, a tennis and volleyball player as well, was swept off the road by the floodwaters on her way home after the Saturday night prom.

Her aunt Roberta Ramirez said there weren’t any barrier on the road just a few miles from Alyssa’s house so her car stopped running because of high floodwaters. She added that the girl acted very rationally in such a dreadful situation. Even though Alyssa called 911 and then her father, it was vainly because the water was too quick.

Her parents had been trying to find her but their attempts were useless. Alyssa’s body was found only on Sunday morning. However, her parents were sure that since their daughter was a very strong believer, she obviously had her place in Heaven, so they would met her again soon.

Hurley Funeral Home in Devine provided some parts from Ramirez’s obituary:

Alyssa was the homecoming queen of Devine High School, as well as a star athlete in tennis and volleyball. She was student council President, cheerleader and co-editor of the high school yearbook. She was very friendly to all who crossed her path, loved her family, her friends and the town of Devine. She had aspirations of being an Optometrist. She will be sorely missed by all. The following excerpt is what she posted 9 days before she died:

‘Faith grows through hardship. Faith does not grow in a garden of property, but in a desert of tribulation. Even though it is never pleasant to experience hardship, it teaches us to persevere and to cling to God. He will never desert us’.

Her death has been mourned by the heartbroken classmates since the news spread through the small town.
One of the Alyssa’s friends said:

I don’t doubt for a second that she’s our guardian angel watching over us
