A lot of questions appeared after the society saw newly released video of Sandra Bland’s arrest. Anger over her death in Texas jail has boiled over.
The video shows Texas state Trooper Brian Encinia pulling Bland over because she failed to use her turn signal. The conversation starts as usual but then Encinia asks Bland to put of her cigarette.
I am in my car. I don’t have to put out my cigarette
– says Bland.
After those words Encinia asks her to step out of the car but Bland refuses to do this. Then police officer opens the door of the vehicle trying to pull Bland out.
Encinia says that Bland is arrested.
I am giving you a lawful order.
– said the policeman.
Bland numerously asks why but Encinia doesn’t respond. Then they start arguing and the policeman pulls out his Taser pointing it at Bland with the words:
Get out of the car! I will light you up! Get out! Now!
Shocked Bland finally gets out of her car, asking rhetorically:
Wow, really, for a failure to signal? You’re doing all of this for a failure to signal?
Despite the majority of what happens later can’t be seen in the video, but it still can be heard how the officer says she is not compliant.
When you pull away from me, you’re resisting arrest
– Encinia explained.
You’re a real man now. You just slammed me, knocked my head in the ground. I got epilepsy you mother******
– responds clearly upset Bland.
The policeman then says ‘Good’, adding that she should have thought about her behavior before starting resist.
According to the law, a police officer can’t arrest a driver for just failing to use a turn signal. But in this situation Bland refused to comply with the orders and get out of her vehicle after a few warnings.
However, a huge BUT appears! Did the officer have a right to ask Bland to get out of her car just because she refused to stop smoking?
The society quickly responded to the video.
Just watched about 20 minutes of Sandra Bland's traffic stop. Idk if I've ever been so heated. I can feel my blood boiling.

Half of my family (including my mother) works in law enforcement. I am well aware of my rights. Sandra Bland should've never been arrested.

Encinia hasn’t spoken openly about the arrest, but gave his account in his arrest warrant affidavit.
He wrote that the woman, Bland became combative and was handcuffed for his safety.
Bland began swinging her elbows at me and then kicked my right leg in the shin
I had a pain in my right leg and suffered small cuts on my right hand. Force was used to subdue Bland to the ground to which Bland continued to fight back
– said Encinia and added that Bland was arrested for Assault on a Public Servant.
As it is known, Bland died in jail three days later. She was found in her cell not breathing from what appears to be self-inflicted asphyxiation, according to the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.
However, the cause of her death hasn’t been yet officially confirmed.
