The same-sex people from Chile will have far more possibilities and rights in the nearest future. Chile’s president signed the law that will take effect in six months.
A lot of Chile’s neighbors in South America have already legitimated the same-sex people right for civil unions. A new law was enacted on Monday by the President of the country, Michelle Bachelet. She claims that erasing the borders and ending up with a difference between homosexual and heterosexual couples is a considerable step for Chile, but its residents are ready to accept people with diverse preferences to their national community.
The new law will take effect in half a year and after that the equal weight will be given to the same-sex civil unions and the unions of a man and a woman.
An approximate number of people that will take an advantage from changing the law is around 2 million, as estimated the local authorities.
The change has the intention to end up with the discrimination that makes impossible for the same-sex couples for example to visit your beloved one in hospital or even to decide what to do with their remains.
Moreover, in six months homo- and heterosexual people will have far more rights concerning inheritance and pensions as well as property and even health.
This is only the first step for Chile’s authority that was fully against people of the same sex. However, Michelle Bachelet supported legitimating of this law and proved that equality is a priority of the government.
