Alaska was shocked by the powerful earthquake this night

The epicenter is thought to be located on the west, near the Mountains of Chigmit. Also the epicenter is only 42 miles far from the Redoubt Volcano. Though the quake was powerful enough, experts in the Tsunami Center state that the quake won’t cause the tsunami.

The state was hit by a 6.3 magnitude quake with the epicenter at south part of the state.

Another interesting fact is that the quake struck the area near mount Katmai which is known as the zone with the largest volcanic activity over the last years. The epicenter is believed to be located 9 miles to the South of mount Iliamna. Experts predict that the quake won’t make much damage.

At first it was reported that the quake was 6.2 magnitude powerful, but later this number has been changed a bit.

Despite the center of the quake being located not very far from the Redoubt Volcano, experts can’t say that it may launch the eruption of the volcano. The last activity of this volcano had been fixed in 2009.
