An exchange Taiwanese girl, whose name is unknown, was visiting Yellowstone National Park with her host family.

While the family was hiking near the Old Faithful, they saw a group of people watching the bison. They decided to join those people.

According to the park service, the girl turned back to the animal as she wanted to take a picture. Suddenly, the bison came up to her and gored the teenager.

The girl was immediately taken to the Old Faithful Clinic. Later she was carried by a helicopter to get further treatment.

Park service say that every year people are gored by bisons. Sometimes the injuries are deadly. Thus visitors are always reminded that all wildlife is wild, especially Yellowstone’s. People shouldn’t come up to animal closely because you never know how it would react. In order to warn people about the consequences, there are a lot of signs in the park.

On Friday, the girl was standing just 3 feet from the animal, while her family was 6 feet from it. As bisons run very quickly, they are really dangerous for people.

The population of bisons in Yellowstone ranges between 2,300 to 5,000.
