New York City and Hawaii were beaten by Chicago that was chosen as a location for President Barack Obama’s library.

The exact place hasn’t been selected yet, but it is already known that the winning proposal will be connected to the Chicago University.

While obtaining a degree the US President was studying law and later had been working as a professor at university, so he still has a house on the Chicago’s South Side.

Obama’s presidential heritage will be framed by the library and it will store his papers and documents as well. Officially a decision about the location will be announced approximately in two weeks.

It became known that the president was leaning towards choosing his hometown Chicago because of his recent call to the mayor of this town and earlier his closest counselor at the White House Rahm Emanuel.

The choice of the city wasn’t accidental, since in 1989 Mr Obama met his wife, First Lady Michelle, while working at a Chicago’s law firm. Two other cities also have strong connection to Obama. Hawaii was a place of the president’s growing up and in New York he attended Columbia University.

US National Archives have been administrating 13 presidential libraries from Herbert Hoover to George W Bush. In Little Rock is situated a library of a former president Bill Clinton and George W Bush has one at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

In 2013 all five living presidents gathered for a ceremony of the Bush library dedication, which moved Mr. Bush to tears.
