Two gay-welcoming cities issued a sincere apology for hosting an event with Republican politician Ted Cruz, known for being hostile to gay marriages.

Hotel owners Ian Reisner and Mati Weiderpass posted on Facebook that they truly regret hosting Ted Cruz.

On Sunday night Reisner wrote that he was shaken to his bones by all the email, phone calls and even texts that he received. The reason of this are several hours spent with Texas senator.

As New York times noted, Reisner posted on Facebook that he was ignorant, naive and fast in agreeing to hold a dinner with Cruz without taking the time to understand his attitude to the gay community. He also added that he spent about 24 hours watching videos of the politician which made him shocked and angry. He also apologized for hurting gays, including some of his friends, family, allies, customers and employees.

Almost 9000 people liked the “Boycott Fire Island Pines Establishments & Out NYC Hotel” page on Facebook by Monday morning.

The co-owner of the Hell’s Kitchen Hotel shared Reisner’s point of view and apologized as well.

He said that people know how much he had done over the last 20 years for the gay community.
