Only two times during this year human beings will have the opportunity for seeing the glory of a spectacular sunset when the sun sets in alignment with the streets that run east to west on Manhattan’s street grid.

The Hayden Planetarium stated that the first phenomenon will be seen at 8:12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. However, it will be seen only half the sun, aligning with the grid on Friday, when on Saturday the full sun will align with the great Big Apple’s street grid.

The next Manhattanhedge could be seen on July 12 and 13.

If the Manhattenhedge’s day appears to be clear than the magnificent radiant sunshine reflected from all those numerous skyscrapers and glass buildings illuminates the north and the south sides of every cross street of the New York City’s grid.

Manhattanhenge could be the best seen on the 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th streets. Although, for people that want to be sure for 100% that they will catch the best view of Manhattanhedge, a special map was created by Cloud-based mapping database CartoDB.

It’s also known that good views have to be across the East River in Long Island as well as from the Hunters Point South Park as its view perfectly aligns with 42nd street, so the photos from there should be rather exciting.
