The 32-years-old Ananta Bijoy was killed in Sylhet, Bangladesh on Tuesday morning. Officials said that he was killed on his way to the work at the local bank. They also added that four men slashed him to death with cleavers and machetes. After committing the crime, the men ran away as there were a few witnesses on the street at that time who are being interviewed by the police to investigate the case. Police think that recent Ananta’s critical Islam posts were the motive for the crime.

This repeating scenario is very troubling

– said the head of the blogger network in Bangladesh, Imran Sarker.

Three bloggers have died under similar circumstances since the start of the year and all of them were posting critical posts of Islam. In all these cases, the attacks were public. 27-year-old Washiqur Rahman was killed in March by two knives-armed men and earlier, in February, Aviijit Roy was murdered the similar way as Ananta was.

Several bloggers have died under similar or even mythical circumstances since 2013.

Ananta’s death caused mass protests on the streets of Bangladesh with demands to the authorities to bring the killers to justice, and his page on Facebook was filled with compassion messages.
