All his property fits in one bag. He sleeps among other homeless people with his footwear beside him and he also uses a couple of blankets in order not to get cold. As well as the others, he has to get up early in the morning, before the morning fuss starts and they are being kicked out of their sleeping places.

Upon awakening, Charles gathers his possessions and heads towards Capitol, his workplace. He has worked in Senate cafeteria for 8 years working as a janitor.

As he has no shower, he uses the bathroom sink to clean himself. According to his words, he cannot go into the place with the food being smelly and unclean. He also said that he gets $11 per hour and almost $350 per week, but he gives most of these money to his children that have their own financial problems.

When Gladden was asked, how his colleagues that have the same salary, can afford a home, Gladden said that his quandary is becoming worse also because of his diabetes disease that made him to miss some of the work days without pay.

I’m working for the most rich people in the country and at that time I’m homeless

– said Gladden.
