Why are we never going to have ‘Back To The Future’ Hoverboards? Neil de Grasse Tyson knows

If we are ever going to have hoverboards we won’t need roads. But the question is, will we have them at all? Unfortunately, no.

If we are ever going to have hoverboards we won’t need roads. But the question is, will we have them at all? Unfortunately, no.

In “Back to the Future Part II, the main hero Marty McFly is flies on his hoverboard on all possible surfaces: water, land and asphalt. This movie became really popular, and it is still loved by millions of fans. October 21, 2015 is the date which Marty travels to in the film, so fans started wondering if they will have an opportunity to see the hoverboard in real life.

To answer this question The Huffington Post reporters contacted Neil deGrasse Tyson, famous astrophysicist and TV host. Sadly, his answer was not pleasant. According to him, it is quite unreal to introduce hoverboards into reality.

There are people working on it, and there are working versions of it, but hoverboards that cover everywhere? Where you would have taken a skateboard? I think that’s unrealistic, and it requires a special under surface to support it

He also added that he can imagine flying hoverboards in some specific areas with all the physics done in hoverboards and in the ground. But still, his doubts are much bigger than fans’ expectations.

However, Tyson did say that something from the film may come true soon. Famous astrophysicist thinks that airports may become wormhole portals.

You open the door, and you’re in London. You pack your bags and still have to go through customs and everything, but the door is a wormhole to London. That’d be cool. Or Tokyo. Or Shanghai. Whatever

Nowadays, Tyson is hosting “StarTalk” where he talks to stars about science. So, maybe one day he would be the one to present hoverboards on his show.
