There is a message for all females, willing to be the part of the Cannes Film Festival: no heels – no festival.
According to ScreenDaily, which is an online version of the magazine Screen International, several women, approximately 50 years old, were not allowed to watch the premiere of the film “Carol”. The explanation of organizers was quite strange. Those women were turned back because they were wearing flat shoes!
It was immediately written on the official website “multiple guests, some older with medical conditions, were denied access to the anticipated world premiere screening for wearing rhinestone flats.”
Organizers of the event have been trying to make the best impression on the guests for years. In the past they were judged for the lack of female directors, who were invited to take part in the competition where they could show their works. The competition have been held in gorgeous city of Cannes.
This year’s festival had much more female participants in comparison to the past. However,The Hollywood reporter said, the disagreement over the heels was a very serious step back.
“Carol” is a lesbian romance with a great number of female cast and its female producers. It is literally complimented for the theme the producers have chosen, thus it makes the timing of the disagreement really odd.
Cannes Film Festival is the right place for showing off with the great emphasis on glamour and luxury.
The festival is trying to find where the controversy came from. As ScreenDaily said, it refused to give any comments on the case, but it stated that high heels are compulsory on the red-carpets.
