In a new American reality show, poor families have to compete with each other in order to get a briefcase full of money.

Poor families are going to decide whether to give a briefcase to more needed families or to leave it for themselves. This new reality show offers a briefcase with $101,000 in it. The Briefcase will select people who suffer deep economical problems and gives them $101,000 before informing that they can either share this money with each other or not.

The participants will be given this information three days before making a final decision.

At first the briefcase will be offered to a neat Christian family paired with a married lesbian couple who are willing to have a baby by IVF.

There are a lot of different people from different families in The Briefcase. Some of them are war veterans, some are parents with sick children. Victims of Hurricane Sandy and those who have almost $500,000 debt are taking part in this show. Trailer says that through all the way families will learn that it is not about the money, it is about what they value the most.

The executive producer of the show, the one who is also behind The Biggest Loser show, Dave Broome, told Entertainment Weekly that The Briefcase’s main idea is to test the human spirit. He also added that they wanted to tackle human values in a big and loud way.

Despite all the advantages of the show, it has been under scrutiny all the time. The Mary Sue web-site called it “an exercise in horrible taste” and “this close to a real-life Hunger Games” as it thinks that it is wrong to take an advantage of people in need.
