On Monday, Taylor Swift made thousands of her fans cry uncontrollably. She dedicated on of her songs to a mother whose son died from cancer.

In 2012 Swift wrote a song about a small boy Ronan who died of cancer. The singer got to know about this sad story from mother Maya Thompson. Exactly that woman inspired Swift to write this song as a tribute to her late son.

Previously, Swift sang this song only once, in September 2012 during the Stand Up to Cancer telethon.

So, during the concert in Glendale, Arizona, Swift announced her next song in the different way. She said:

There’s a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson. I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan

Ronan’s mother had a blog where she shared her son’s battle with neuroblastoma, which he lost, in 2011. Taylor Swift read this blog and was so impressed by strong mother’s love to her son that wrote a song. It was released as a single right after the telethon. All money that was raised from sales of the song went to cancer charities, along with the Ronan Thompson Foundation.

I would read the blog every night. And in it was this account of what it was like to watch cancer take over life. And since then, I’ve had cancer hit really close to me in my family

In April Taylor Swift announced that her mother was diagnosed with cancer.
