Amy’s dad, Mitch, who now fronts the Amy Winehouse Foundation, claimed that he is totally disappointed with the way how he is portrayed in the film. Moreover, despite the fact that he had always been with his daughter, spending every day beside her, the documentary notifies absolutely opposite. He spent every day beside Amy and, if he didn’t, that was only because of work, but even then he was calling her seven times a day.
Also he is dissatisfied with the absence of a balance in this film. Mitch claims that the biographers put everything down there, although it lasts only two hours and it’s impossible to dump there all that unnecessary odds and adds. The members of Amy’s family believe that the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both deceptive and holds untruths.
The documentary about Amy is going to be presented at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and it was made by the same team that the famous Bafta-winning Senna about the Formula 1 racing driver Ayrton Senna.
The filmmakers explained that they came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family, while doing this documentary, and that they tried to do it with total objectivity, as with Senna. That’s why they conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy Winehouse during the production process and the story that the film tells is a reflection of their findings from these interviews.
It is known that Amy died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged 27.
