On April 22, after the release of the “All-New X-Men” #40 issue, the whole world discovered that Iceman is homosexual. But the writer of the book, Brian Michael Bendis, said that it’s just the beginning.
On the questions “Why now?”, “Why after almost 50 years?” and just “Why?”, Bendis responds with a smile and says that there is a huge mass of people, who also hide their sexuality for the numerous reasons and that it was the right time to open the truth. He said that it was just a first little chapter of a much larger story, which will be told in the nearest future.
The series is about displacing the ‘X-Men’ in time when they were teenagers. The truth came out when Iceman was talking with Jean Grey about his teacher Magik, preciously about how hot she is. At the next moment Jean tells her friend that she knows about his sexuality and that it doesn’t bother her.
Then, Jean asks why does he is saying that another woman is hot if she knows that he dislikes women in that way at all. After more conversation, Jean points that she can read minds, but the Iceman has already knew it. Jean also adds that it doesn’t matter to her or anyone else. Afterwards the two characters hug and the story moves on.
Before this nobody couldn’t even imagine such turn of the story, because Bobby was dating with different women. However, during the last 50 years, the comics have never fully addressed Iceman’s sexuality until now.
