American writer George Martin told about the probable ending of its cycle “A Song of Ice and Fire”, which was the basis for the series “Game of Thrones”.

In an interview with the Observer, he said that the final story would be ‘bittersweet’, though he clarified that the cycle is not finished yet, so there’s nothing specific to be said about its finale.

The writer explained:

It’s no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended Lord of the Rings. It ends with victory, but it’s a bittersweet victory. Frodo is never whole again, and he goes away to the Undying Lands, and the other people live their lives. All I can say is that’s the kind of tone I will be aiming for

Currently Martin is writing the ending of his sixth novel series “The Winds of Winter”. The book is likely to go on sale at the same time with the start of the sixth season of the series – in April 2016.

Filming of the sixth season began in July. The plot of the episodes will be based on already published books of the writer, and on those not published yet; Martin is working closely with the creators of the saga.
