Famous comedian and Ben Stiller’s mother Anne Meara dies

The 85-year-old actress and comedian Anne Meara died Saturday. After gaining fame as a half of the comedy team Stiller & Meara and starring in numerous TV and films she passed away.

The 85-year-old actress and comedian Anne Meara died Saturday. After gaining fame as a half of the comedy team Stiller & Meara and starring in numerous TV and films she passed away.

Her family, husband Jerry Stiller and son Ben, said she died on Saturday without no further details provided.

A statement were released the next day to The Associated Press by the Stiller family where Jerry was described as Meara’s husband and lifetime partner as well. According to the statement they were happily married for 61 years and worked together almost the same period of time. In 1960s the couple performed on The Ed Sullivan Show and different other programs as Stiller & Meara. They both won numerous awards for the radio and TV advertisements which they made together.

‘All My Children’, ‘Rhoda’, ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘The King of Queens’ as well as dozens of other films and TV shows are included in the list of Meara’s roles. For her supporting role on ‘Archie Bunker’s Place’ she was two times nominated for an Emmy Award. Besides, she had three other Emmy nods for her guest-starring role on ‘Homicide’ in 1997.

In 1983 Meara got a Writers Guild Award for the TV movie The Other Woman.

Meara’s husband Jerry Stiller, son Ben Stiller, daughter Amy and several grandchildren survived her.

It is said in the family’s statement:

Anne’s memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne
