A new chart record has been set by Ed Sheeran with his song Thinking Out Loud. The single becomes the first in the history of UK charts to spend a YEAR inside the UK top 40.

The song entered the charts last June with 26th position and finished this week at number 28.

Besides, Thinking Out Loud also became the single that has the longest climb ever to the top of the chart as it takes 19 weeks for the song to obtain the first position after its release.

The single became the 19th most-played track of last week, so Sheeran should be thankful to his ballad, which is enormously popular on streaming services.

Talking about Thinking Out Loud, the total amount of its combined sales and streams is 1.65 million.

The album, which includes the song, is entitled X. This album has also been in its position in the UK album chart top 10 for about a year now. Besides, it spends 12 nonconsecutive weeks at number one position, while it currently is at number 5.

The X album is one of the best selling albums of the decade. X has sold more than 2.23 million to date.

Among those singles, which have come close to the Sheeran’s record are John Legend’s All Of Me and Pharrell Williams’ Happy that spent 44 and 49 consecutive weeks respectively in the Top 40.
